Problems with Feelings are "Normal"

In the hospital, most people feel some anxiety about the future and about what to expect. The hospital "routine" and our experiences make most of us feel like we are in a fishbowl. It is very easy for us to feel afraid something bad will happen. It is "normal" to feel somewhat anxious or scared. It is "normal" for us to even to feel somewhat depressed or sad that we are in the hospital, that we need some tests or treatment. But we should make sure that the anxiety or sadness is not too much.

What to Do About Problems with Feelings

Although television makes us think that there is a quick, easy pill for everything including anxiety and sadness, the first and best way to deal with being anxious or sad in the hospital is to talk to a doctor or nurse about our feelings. Often they will be able to help us by talking about what is happening or will happen or changing the way things are happening. Sometimes we may need medicines and sometimes we will be helped when some medicines are stopped.

That's it! Really.
